Welcome to the Website of ‘The Portly Pixie’

Falstaff the PixieBetween 1987 and 2005 this was a inn at the north eastern corner of a Dukedom known as Chouse, a small portion of a set of football changing rooms on Whitley Common, Coventry, one of 3 Second World War ammunition bunkers on a farm near Bulkington and a place where adventures began. We were also one of the few live fantasy role playing centres that opened its doors to those who had no idea what orcs were until they met them in a dark room by which time it was too late to do anything but fight for your character’s life. ‘The Portly Pixie’ is the trading name of Helen Holdforth and Roger Price but regretably we can no longer offer adventure experiences.

However, the adventures live on. You can purchase a copy of the gaming system we used, an almost complete set of the 18 years worth of adventure plots, the 13 years of the long running Kingship campaign scenario and many other things through this site.

Remember! It’s the taking part that counts!

Message from Memnon

Hello everyone, some people here may know that I moved my family from the Midlands to Cornwall. I now part own and manage 36 acres of countryside / woodland … and Holiday cottages…. Roger Price came to stay with us over New years and we have been talking and posing the question… “What do you do with 36 acres and accommodation for over 30 people?” Then Jason & Roger fade into the background and Rogo turns to look at Memnon and grins, looking at Memnon as if he’s some sort of idiot….

Open question, to all who have visited the Pixie… is anyone interested in any sort of event? Board games through to a weekend event? If we get interest we’ll  dust off the kit, and plan something! Feel free to share with people who might not see this, feel free to contact either of us directly. Feel free to suggest things. This may not happen, it may be a one off or if may happen annually to brighten up the darker months of the years…. But we be daft not to try!

All the best,

Jason

Have you seen the books?

Not so long ago, thanks to the pandemic and the lock downs, I finally finished the story book version of the latest ‘Tales From The Portly Pixie – Monopoly’. This one is available as a print-to-order paperback through the various Amazon outlets. I promised it to some of those who still frequent the inn – if only around a gaming table – in time for Christmas. As this was several years ago it’s a good job I didn’t specify which Christmas!

I know that by the time you read this it will probably be too late for you to get your hands on a copy for Christmas 2021 – although things on the web seem to have a long life span so perhaps there is time before your next Christmas. The first book in the series ‘Tales From The Portly Pixie – Of Cabbages and Kings’ is also available as a Kindle download, as well as another print-to-order paperback, so you could start your journey into the Dukedom of Chouse with that this festive season.

For the determined explorer I’d like to mention that the ‘Complete Adventure Files’, ‘Kingship plots’ and several other archives of the things we used to do – often in the shadows – can also be downloaded from Amazon.

I have been advised the next story people would like to read is ‘Secure Homes’. You will see in ‘Monopoly’ that the first chapter is written and again I promise to have it finished by Christmas. I’m still not saying which Christmas!

Watch this space!
